This commission presented itself as an exciting diversion from
traditional subject matter with an international style motif with
decidedly Eastern influences. By blending contemporary architectural
and decorative accents with the ideals of Feng Shui, an image was
created that celebrated the elements of wind, fire, water and earth with
the personal influences of the client's decorative style.
This image featured two images visible from the foyer and dining
area on the same oversized piece of canvas. Measuring 11'x17' the image
begins in the foyer, wraps around a bull-nose corner and ends in the
dining area.
To enhance the illusion, the oriental themed courtyard is
rendered through two windows with different views of the same image.
The illusion shows the image as you would see it from the foyer , then as
you would see it around the corner in the dining room. A considerable
amount of attention was dedicated to the design of the image to ensure
proper placement of all visible elements from lily pads to glazed tiles
as views change from left to right.
Personal elements were included from the arrangements of cherry
blossoms (a tribute to the client's previous residence in Washington
D.C.) to a piece of parchment bearing Chinese characters for love,
harmony and peace.
